Types of Braces

Invisalign® is the clear way to straighten teeth without braces, using aligners. Aligners are removable and virtually invisible, which means you can straighten your teeth without anyone knowing; and you can still eat and drink what you want. Also, you can brush and floss normally to maintain healthy gums and teeth; and there are no wires, metal or brackets to cause mouth abrasions.

Many of our patients had never considered traditional braces but are now happily and comfortably improving their smiles with Invisalign®.

Rubber Bands

Why are rubber bands used?

Rubber bands add additional force to the brace helping them move the teeth to the desired position. For example, rubber bands may be stretched from the upper front teeth to the lower back teeth to help correct an overbite.

When are rubber bands worn?

Unless otherwise instructed, rubber bands should be worn at all times, except while eating or brushing. It is important for you to follow the instructions provided on how often you should wear your rubber bands. They will not work as effectively if not worn consistently.

How often do I need to change my rubber bands?

Rubber bands (elastics) need to be replaced at least once a day or they will lose their elasticity. Be sure to take plenty home from the office because a few days without them can seriously delay progress.

Are there different size rubber bands?

Yes, there are many sizes, each for different purposes. The doctor will determine what size rubber band you will use.

Why are rubber bands important?

Rubber bands help to move the teeth into the desired position. If not worn consistently, treatment progress can be delayed or even stopped. It is important for you to follow wearing instructions closely so we can keep your orthodontic treatment on track.

What is my responsibility at each appointment?

Be sure to take plenty of rubber bands home with you at each appointment. If you do run out of rubber bands, please call our office immediately so we can replenish your supply. Either we can mail then to you or you can come to the office to pick them up. Always be sure to have a good understanding of where each rubber band hooks in your mouth.
